WordPress Free Domain Availability

  Hello there!
  I am in the process of starting a blog. When looking for a free wordpress domain I realised that the domain name was already taken. I got in contact with the author of the blog which had been inactive for over 7 years and she very kindly deleted it so that I can us the name. I can now see that it’s been deleted but it still doesn’t appear in the choice that I’m given. Is there a delay between the moment a blog is deleted and the domain becomes available again? The name in question is https://aisforasparagus.wordpress.com/ and it is very important that I am able to get it as it is the title of my short story that I want to publish on wordpress.

  A deleted website can never be reused! Instead the owner had to transfer the site you. Wait for help from a Staff Member.

  Thanks for your quick answer Staartmees!
  No way! I cannot believe that it can never be reused once deleted. I thought that one of the points of deleting it was to free the name for someone else to use :(
  Is there anything I can do to get it unblocked? How do I contact a Staff Member?

  Thanks for your help, I’m new to WordPress (as you would have guessed…)

  The site is still in the grace period and can be restored, but we can only do that on request of the site’s former owner.

  After that, they can transfer the site to you following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

  So, first though we will need to receive a request from the site’s former owner to recover it.
