WordPress newby… help with new design

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello! I have found a lot of information on creating a new page, but I cannot find information on porting a current design to a new layout. Is there any reading material or a way to go about this? Our page is outdated, I would like to bring it up to a more modern style. I am not finding it to be user friendly.

  • Hi there,

You are referring to your self-hosted WordPress site at eaglemachines.com yes?

I’ve taken a look at the source code of that site and I can see it is using the Divi page builder editor, which is a 3rd party plugin that can be added to replace the default WordPress editor with their custom page creation tool instead.

This can make it difficult to move to WordPress.com since we don’t offer Divi by default, and content formatted to work with Divi can require a lot of cleanup to work with the default WordPress “block editor”

eaglemachines.com was created for you by a web design company, yes? That may explain the complexity I’m seeing on my end. If you are planning to manage a redesign in-house it might be a good idea to try exporting your contents from eaglemachines.com and importing it into a blank site here on WordPress.com to see how the content will look if you try to move it from the current site. This is a low risk way to get a feel for how much work might be required for a redesign. We have a guide here you can follow: https://move.wordpress.com/

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
