WordPress not showing live site

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

I’ve recently made some changes to my website, disabling Jetpack Stats which was connected to my wordpress.com site. I’ve installed All In One Security plugin instead. Since then, whenever I log directly into wordpress.com, it takes me directly to my staging site only. It’s listing my staging site as my primary site and doesn’t even list my live site at all anymore. Can anyone help me with this? I’d like to be able to log directly via wordpress.com and go to my live site only. Thank you.

  • Hi Jamilyn,

I totally understand—being rerouted every time is just extra friction you don’t need.

There’s a way forward here that will lead to either a solution or better clarity for next steps. To be specific, let’s review your account settings. (Profile Account Settings)

Now, you’ll want to make sure the following is true:

    1. Under Account Information, ensure your live website is set as the Primary site.
    2. In Interface Settings, set the Default landing page to My primary site.

That should do the trick. Here’s to efficiency!

  • Hello,

It seems like when you disabled Jetpack Stats or installed the All In One Security plugin, Jetpack might have been completely disconnected from your site.

To resolve this, you’ll need to reconnect Jetpack to your site. Here’s how you can do that:

    1. Log into your site’s admin dashboard: Go to holistichomeschoolmom.com/wp-admin.
    2. Reconnect Jetpack: Once logged in, navigate to the Jetpack settings and follow the prompts to reconnect it to your WordPress.com account. This should help WordPress.com recognize your live site again.

Here is more info on connecting Jetpack to self-hosted sites: https://jetpack.com/support/getting-started-with-jetpack/

    Hope this helps!

If your WordPress site is not showing live updates or is completely inaccessible, there could be several reasons behind this issue. Here are some common causes and solutions:1. Clear Cache

    • If you’re using a caching plugin (e.g., WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache), clear the cache from the plugin settings.
    • Clear your browser cache by pressing Ctrl + Shift + R (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + R (Mac).
    • If you use Cloudflare or any CDN, purge the cache from the provider’s dashboard.

    2. Check Site URL Settings

Go to WordPress Dashboard → Settings → General and ensure that:

    • WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) are correct.
    • If your site uses HTTPS, ensure that the URLs start with https://.

    3. Flush Permalinks

Incorrect permalinks can cause your site not to update.

    • Go to Settings → Permalinks and click Save Changes (without making any modifications).
    • This will refresh the permalink structure.

    4. Disable Plugins and Themes

A faulty plugin or theme could be causing the issue.

    • Disable all plugins from Plugins → Installed Plugins and check if the site loads.
    • If the issue is resolved, enable plugins one by one to find the culprit.
    • If the issue persists, switch to a default theme like Twenty Twenty-Four under Appearance → Themes.

    5. Check .htaccess File

    • Connect to your server via FTP or File Manager in cPanel.
    • Locate the .htaccess file in the root directory.
    • Rename it to .htaccess_old and visit Settings → Permalinks → Save Changes in WordPress to generate a new one.

    6. Verify Database Connection

If your site is showing a “Error establishing a database connection” message:

    • Open the wp-config.php file via FTP or File Manager.
    • Check the DB_NAME, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD, and DB_HOST values.
    • Contact your hosting provider if you’re unsure about the credentials.

    7. Check Hosting Server Issues

If your site is still not showing live:

    • Check with your hosting provider for server outages or maintenance.
    • Ensure your domain is pointing to the correct nameservers.

    Final Thoughts

If none of these steps resolve the issue, try restoring a recent backup or contacting your hosting provider for assistance. For more common WordPress issues and their solutions, check out 15 Common WordPress Errors and How to Fix Them.

  • Hey @jamilyngay!

I appreciate your patience while we looked into this!

I can see the site holistichomeschoolmom.com is not currently hosted on WordPress.com, but it was connected through Jetpack so it did show up in your WordPress.com dashboard before. To correct this, I encourage you to follow @staff-oikake’s steps or these:
