WordPress.org vs WordPress.com Business

I am trying to switch over a business website page from WordPress.org to WordPress.com business plan to make it easier for ownership and myself to maintain. I am following instructions through WordPress that state I need to go under Tools and then Export to start the process. I am not seeing an export option. Could this feature be blocked for my access by our current outsourced hosting agency?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • @carleepadgett, I haven’t heard of hosts blocking export, though I suppose it’s a possibility.
Are you able to access it here? prestigeoutdoorlighting.com/wp-admin/tools.php?page=export-choices

If not, you might check to see if you’ve got another backup / export tool enabled that’s overriding the settings there.

When I’m clicking your link I receive the message “Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page”. I believe export is what I need to follow the WordPress steps to upgrade to a business account from self hosted?

  • If you cannot access that page it means you likely don’t have admin permissions on your self-hosted site. You’ll need to contact your hosting provider/the developer that maintains your site for help exporting the content in that case.
