WordPress: Research Publications?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I’m very curious about what features WordPress offer in terms of Research Publications?

I’m looking for a feature included in a webpage similar to this one: http://www.agmip.org/publicatios/

Thank you so much for your help!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

I’m not quite sure I understand what you want to include on your website. Can you please explain more about it?

    Hi,

    Thanks for your quick reply!

So I want to create a research website – and for that I need to have a page with publications of research articles. So I wonder if there is a publications feature – not a regular blog – or a page with information but a publications section/feature where you can post new publications: including authors name, DOI article number, abstract, link to pdf etc. It’s almost like a small library feature – gives an overview of research articles and options to read more about them or go to the pdf. Please see this link: http://www.agmip.org/publicatios/ – for an example of a publications feature!

    Hi again!

Also, I’m using the Dyad theme for my website. If I create blog posts, it automatically updates it in the website in the slide show -if I categorize it under the ‘featured’ – which is great. However, I wanted to customize how it is displayed it in the homepage. For example, it shows the newest posts, but they appear too large. I want to have 3 or 4 blogposts appear next to each other on a row (instead of just 2 very large ones) but I was not able to see the html code for those. So I’m wondering whether those features could be customized for my website?

    Thank you!
    Amanda

Dyad is designed to show two posts per column, but you might like some of our other themes. Maybe one of these would suit you well?

Something like this one comes to mind with your content:

And while we don’t have a publications feature per se, you could take existing features and use them to accomplish what you’re after.

For example, you might like the Portfolio feature. Create one project per publication, add in the links and what not, tag or categorize them as you’d like, and then use shortcodes on a “Publications” page to list them however you see fit. Let us know if you’d like some help giving that a go. Getting the links to appear on a list in each one might be a bit tricky, but we’d be happy to help you figure it out if you want to add a few sample “projects”.

    Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions for the publications.

I have a question about prizing for an academic institution and non-profit organization – do you have any special prices for that?

If you purchase the business plan – will that unlock editing options for creating more columns in the Dyad theme?

And also, for the theme called Chronicle – how do you activate the slide show? (I’ve tried to find it but I’ve been unsuccessful).

And last, I tried uploading a logo on the Chronicle theme – but it appears super super tiny.. can the size be changed (maybe if upgrading to the business plan) ?

Thank you so much for your help!

  • Hi there,

There is currently no special pricing or discount for non-profit organizations.

If you purchase the business plan – will that unlock editing options for creating more columns in the Dyad theme?

Yes. The Business plan includes the Custom Design feature which lets you alter the CSS code of the theme. You can read more about it here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-css/

And also, for the theme called Chronicle – how do you activate the slide show? (I’ve tried to find it but I’ve been unsuccessful).

Here are the instructions to set up the post slider:

    https://wordpress.com/theme/chronicle/setup/

And last, I tried uploading a logo on the Chronicle theme – but it appears super super tiny.. can the size be changed (maybe if upgrading to the business plan) ?

The maximum allowed logo size for that theme is 120×120 pixels. Which is small, but it follows the theme’s layout.

Also, if you plan on upgrading to the Business plan, you’ll be able to install plugins. There are quite a few plugins that allow you to create publication lists. Have a look here:

Thank you so much for all your help! I really appreciate it!

Just one more question to clarify: so if i upgrade to the business plan – can I increase the logo size?

    Hi,
I have a question, regarding upgrading to a Business Plan for the Chronicle theme. If I upgrade to a Business Plan, will I be able to add another menu in addition to the primary menu or the social menu or a slideshow (that I can code in html) in the home page?
Will I be able to add small features like adding a button etc, within the homepage?
Also, will I be able to see the html code for all the pages, including the homepage?

Is there a trial period for the business plan?
Also, I wanted to understand the differences between the Custom CSS Upgrade Plan and the Business Plan, and what privileges does the business plan give us?
I also, have a question regarding the email forwarding feature. Does this unlock only when we purchase the Business Plan?

    Best,
    Sruti

  • @ase2130 Premium and Business both include the CSS editing capabilities. You could create a larger logo with CSS, and you may be able to accomplish the extra columns with just that.

The business plan lets you create a child theme if needed, though you might need to hire a developer to help with that.
