WordPress site name changed

  My site underwent a name change just over 2 years ago when transferred to me as owner. I now wish to reuse that name but am told it is not available. I understood after 2 years it would be available again. Please explain its unavailability.

  Hi there,

  Site addresses are not recycled, and a deleted site address can only be restored to the original owner for 30 days. After that no one, including the original owner, can use that address again.

  I understood after 2 years it would be available again.

  For a brief period during 2016/2017 we made it possible to re-use deleted addresses, but only if certain criteria were met – an address matching a username couldn’t ever be re-used, for example – so there was never any guarantee that any given address would become re-useable.

  That option caused problems, though, and was disabled again quite some time ago.
