WordPress still "in charge" of my old Domain

  • Unknown's avatar

    Dear community,

I’m Philipp and I’m helping out a friend with relaunching her website. Part of that is moving it to my host, so that she does not have the restrictions of a wordpress.com installation anymore.

Yesterday, 7PM, we have moved the domain via auth code to my host. Everything seemed fine, after only a few minutes the domain pointed to the new host. Now, its all back to wordpress.com again?

My host told me that it can take up to 72 hours… but then, why did everything seem fine yesterday?

In https://wordpress.com/my-domains , the domain is still visible and it seems like nothing ever happened.

We have completed the entire moving procedure without a problem.

We have built a new website from scratch on my host, so we haven’t moved the old one, only the domain.

    With best regards,

    Philipp

    Hi Philipp,

During the 72 hours right after you change where a domain is pointed, you might see the domain flip back and forth between the new host and WordPress.com. After a while, that will settle down and it will always point to your new host. (That happens because it takes some time for the domain change to propagate to servers around the world.)

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)
