WordPress White Screen

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello!
I have just updated plugins on this website and I am now getting a screen that says ‘There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.’

What can I do? The email address for the admin of this account does not receive emails.

    WP.com: Unknown
    Jetpack: Unknown
    Correct account: Unknown

  • Sorry to hear that! Can you send the error and a link to the site?

If the site isn’t hosted with us, we most likely can’t help much. But here are a few ideas:

    – Check to see if you have an admin email with clues

    – Ask your host to check error logs

    – If this happened with a recent theme or plugin update or install, you can manually remove one like so (especially if it’s mentioned in errors):
    https://wordpress.org/support/article/managing-plugins/#manual-uninstallation

    – Ask your host to help you restore a good backup

Going forward, you’ll also want to use the correct resources for help with the free WordPress code. We have some tips here: https://wordpress.com/support/help-support-options/#word-press-org-support

WordPress.com uses that free code for our hosting service. We provide support, maintenance, SSL, and more for our users. Once you’ve resolved this issue, if you’d like to move the site to our services so we can be more involved in helping you, let us know. You can find our pricing here:

    Hoping this helps!
