wordpress.com blog posts display in asc order ok but not descending order
-
For my website http://www.50and5gowest.wordpress.com my blogs do not display in descending chronological order. I have updated the publish dates manually but still not displaying in descending chronological order. If I type in http://www.50and5gowest.wordpress.com/?order=asc my blogs do display in ascending chronological order! I have no idea what is going on?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @50and5gowest, when I head here I see the latest news at the top, in descending order, as expected:
https://50and5gowest.wordpress.com/If you aren’t seeing that, can you get a screenshot of what you do see? You can add it to your media library.

Hi supernovia, the first three posts are displayed as expected in descending order but the next three are not… have added a “50and5gowest-screenshot” to my media library. When displaying in “asc” order works perfectly for all 6 posts. Thanks for looking into it…

OK, I understand. The posts go not only from left to right but from top to bottom.
So in this case, you have the latest three posts on the first line. Then next level down has just two posts, one on the left, one on the right. The middle post has been pushed down by the post above it. I made this screenshot to see if it may help:

Right, got it, understand the sequence and priority from your screenshot. Not sure what you have done but now displaying in correct order? How?
-
They were displaying in the correct order all along. Sometimes that’s less apparent if one “row” is only slightly higher than one that’s starting further down but on the left.
-
Really it should display in date order if there is (say) less than 50% overlap. More a case of lazy design/programming the way it is currently. Also, it means the order changes all the time when viewed on different devices with different screen sizes. But thanks anyhow for your help… at least I now know what it is…

Hi supernovia, nope it still doesn’t make sense. I now understand why it was working… because I zoomed out/in my screen. Zoom out further and then still not displayed in descending order. Exactly as per the screen shot i uploaded. All the blog posts are the same size yet it mixes up the order?
-
Hi @50and5gowest, I wouldn’t have expected that when all of the posts are the same size.
But I checked in with the design team and confirmed these “masonry” style layouts have to use a lot of tricks to make everything fit on the screen, and even when you do make everything exactly even there’s no guarantee it will shake out that way. They’re meant to give a bit of a random look.
For a more precise layout, can I recommend something like Revelar, Maxwell, or Dyad instead?
