wordpress.com blog to new domain name

I just upgraded my existing wordpress.com blog to a new domain. How do I transfer my existing blog to my new domain name? The new domain is also on wordpress.com.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

if it helps any – the new blog is xneverwherex.com and the prior one is xneverwherex.wordpress.com – i realize it could take 72 hours if I was reading the correct thing, but if someone can tell me if this is correct before I start making an entire brand new one.

Ummm, you didn’t have to do it the way you apparently did by starting a new blog here and then mapping the domain to that new blog. You could have just mapped the new domain name to the old blog and it would have appeared under the new domain name and all the old urls at xneverwherex.wordpress.com would have automatically redirected.
What you have to do now is export all your stuff from xneverwherex.wordpress.com and then import it into the new blog that you created for the new domain name.
Any links to the old blog will not redirect, and any links at search engines will not automatically go to the new blog address.
This would be my suggestion. Contact staff and have them move the domain mapping upgrade and domain name over to xneverwherex.wordpress.com . That way you won’t lose any traffic, bookmarks or links that are floating around on the internet and you won’t lose the links from the search engines.
It will mean probably another day or two of disruption, but in the end I think it would be more beneficial for you.

Thanks – I followed the instructions here – http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/register-domain/ as I thought that is what I needed to do?
I thought I was mapping the new name to the old blog – and when I go into xneverwherex.com at the top it links directly to the old blog.
Ive already contacted support – but this helps out a lot. I dont know how I made this so much more difficult! :)

Not sure what went haywire, but this blog, http://xneverwherex.com/ , only has the opening hello world post.
This blog however, http://xneverwherex.wordpress.com/ , has content going back to 2006. I assume that is the blog that you wanted the new domain name linked to, correct?

Thanks for your help. If you now go to xneverwherex.com it displays correctly. I used your first response to explain what needed done – and it seemed to have helped them. Was all fixed this morning!
And yes – that is exactly what the problem was. I think it either just took time or something was changed on their end. I didnt understand fully what happened, but its working now!
