WordPress.com Export Failure

WordPress importer, the one that comes with wordpress, for wordpress, from wordpress.com to a self-hosted wordpress.org site, is failing. It only imports up to a certain date and fails.

The first export was 104KBs. The second export was 524KB. I figured the something had gone wrong during the download. But either file fails.

Is there another way to grab all my content from my wordpress.com site for import into my self-hosted site, that won’t fail?

  • Hi there,

What do you mean second export? Did you run the export twice? Or did you get two files?

I did an export from your site and got one file of around 470kb. I was able to import that file to a test site without any problems, and all your posts imported.

If it won’t import on your self-hosted site, it points to an error on that site. Please also ask in the self-hosted forums if they have any idea what might be causing the problem:

    Hello kokkieh.

I ran the export twice as I thought the initial export had screwed up, which then gave me those two files of different sizes.

After some time I remembered that I could access the wp-admin area manually by adding it to the URL. So I went there and re-did the export and it then gave me the 470KB file which ended up being the full export.

Then I had trouble importing that again, which ended up being the Dreamhost DreamPress Varnish service and php limits getting in the way, but eventually finally got it all sorted.

I am now fully online with my new self-hosted site.

Sorry, I should be clear, apologies.

None of the exports gave me two files. The first export gave me 110KB file and the second export gave me a roughly 500KB file.

  • Thanks for letting me know you got it sorted out :)
