wordpress.com hijacked my domain name and it wont change

  • Unknown's avatar

I had jacobwgood.com tied to my wordpress.com account – I removed it and changed my nameservers from your nameservers to my host’s nameservers. Its been 3-4 days since I made this change. The DNS servers are all showing my new hosts IPs and the nameserver change. The problem is that whenever I go to my domain jacobwgood.com it should take me to my hostgator website, but it takes me to this:

    https://en.wordpress.com/typo/?subdomain=jacobwgood

    please help

  • I’m seeing jacobwgood.com point to hostgator.

Your browser may be looking at a cached version of the page. You can try either clearing your cache, using a different browser, or loading the page and then holding the shift key while you click reload/refresh.

Rootjosh, thank you for your feedback.

according to whatsmydns.com you are correct, my nameservers and everything else is pointing to hostgator.

But when I go to jacobwgood.com it takes me to:
    https://en.wordpress.com/typo/?subdomain=jacobwgood
    and not my hostgator webpage.

On top of this, when I try to log into manage my hostgator website through the link they gave me, it will lead me to wordpress.com

I have contacted and worked with hostgator, they say everything is good
I have contacted namecheap.com, they say everything is good

It seems to only be a problem with me?

    I have tried:

-clearing the cache, this worked twice for about 15 minutes each time but now its not working at all
    -using a different browser
    -the shift method you mentioned
-changing my host file to point to hostgators IP
-changing my DNS server to 8.8.8.8
    -praying to the internet gods

    I am completely baffled

Here is what I think is wrong and why:

-I had jacobwgood.com attached to my wordpress.com blog
-I signed up for hostgator optimized wordpress
-I changed my nameservers on namecheap.com from wordpress.com’s to hostgators’
    -I waited 1 day
-I realized wordpress.com still had jacobwgood.com attached to wordpress.com VIA their settings in my wordpress.com management console
-I removed jacobwgood.com from the settings in wordpress.com

I believe that because of the order I did the above is created some conflict, wordpress.com is holding onto jacobwgood.com somehow and I don’t know how

    This is very frustrating

jacobwgood.com opens a standalone WP (org) install on hostgator site for me.

It can sometimes take up to 72 hours for DNS changes to propagate over the interwebs and as strange as it sounds, the last person to see the change to DNS is the owner of the domain, usually due to caching somewhere along the way.

I would also suggest resetting your router (really!) and also again clearing your browser’s cache and cookies entirely, close and restart your browser and/or your computer.

    Fingers crossed.

  • I see a hostgator site as well. @justjennifer’s advice is sound. Cheers!
