  If I switch from being hosted on a WordPress.com site to trying to install wordpress and upload it to my FTP client, is it possible for me to get everything off of my WordPress.com site and put it onto my new site?

  Also, even if this can be done am I going to lose all of my current rankings in Google?

  What can I do to prevent these things from happening and have a smooth transition?

  Otherwise, you’ll need to install WordPress from http://wordpress.org/ on a hosting provider. We have some recommendations at http://get.wp.com/hosting/

  Then, direct your domain to your new hosting provider by changing the namservers: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-nameservers

  Once that’s done, you can move your content following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
