WP Essentials start window not publishing sandbox to public website

Hosted website was ancient. We decided to go with WordPress. Aquired a 2nd domain and what was described as the ‘way to go’ for WordPress. The Essentials window to launch either your public site or sandbox (development) site. I had already started a replica of our old website at WordPress.com so I imported it to sandbox. Spent several days adding more pages etc. (This is a static site, no blog). Ready to do a first Publish but going to keep offline for a while longer. Went to Essentials window, used Publish button, expected linked to http://www.mysite.wp and partial front page picture, message ‘Something went wrong’. No menus, no text on front page. Fighting with host 6 weeks now. Telling me it’s a known bug! I have sql background and managed to get databases alike. Got both directories alike and now have a public site. Problem is it takes a day to manually do this. Not a proper way to do it. Looking for know cause of Publish button fail or easy replication of sandbox to public in same file manager and database.
    Thanks

  • Hi there,

Looks like you’re in the wrong forum. It appears that you’re using the self-hosted version of WordPress and you need to seek help at the WordPress.org forums:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

These forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites only. If you want to know more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org you can read this document:

I must not have been clear. We are hosted by BlueDomino. Using their servers for a price. They installed the software on those servers. I stated I’ve been fighting with host for 6 weeks.

    Still looking for a solution.

  • Hi @tjermis, WordPress.com is a site hosting service, and we provide maintenance / support / security for the sites hosted here on our servers, with plans ranging from free (supported by these forums) to VIP.

WordPress.org is the free software you’ve installed at BlueDomino. It has a separate community forum here:
    https://wordpress.org/support

You may be able to find the issue you’re running into here:
    https://wordpress.org/support/topic-tag/something-went-wrong/

Well I’m really confused now. The first reply said I needed to go to WP.org because I was self hosted and this forum was for ‘hosted’ site support only.
I explain my site is ‘hosted’ and name the hosting company and I’m basically told to leave because I’m not using WP.com to host my site.

Being the official WordPress site you should be helping anybody with WordPress.

Where does one get a question answered?

I started at this site with a free site. I’ll be sure to go delete it.

  • “self-hosted” is a common term in the community. It means hosted by someone who is not WordPress.com.

We are the official forums for WordPress.com sites. We do not represent WordPress.org.

The official forums for WordPress.org sites, hosted by someone other than WordPress.com, are at https://wordpress.org/support.

As we’ve mentioned, the service and the software are actually quite different. Please consider reading this if you need more clarification:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org
