“Write Excerpt” box not appearing.
-
Hello. I’ve run into an issue.
WordPress updated recently, and in the process the “Write Excerpt” function that should be present during the editing phase has completely vanished. I tried looking up ways of restoring it, but the advice I found wasn’t as helpful as I would have liked. The options required to be on are turned on.
Is this just a function they’re removing/paywalling behind a higher-tier plan? Or is this a bug that will be resolved? I’m hoping it’s the latter. Has anyone else had this issue today?

The Excerpt Block certainly hasn’t been removed. You find all info at https://wordpress.com/support/excerpts/

Ah, sorry for the issue here, wasn’t what I thought it was. The ‘Excerpt’ bit is tucked away as a small text box under the header image in the new UI design, practically invisible.

Glad you tracked it down! You’re right that the Excerpt field can feel a bit tucked away in the editor’s settings sidebar after the UI refresh. It hasn’t been removed or paywalled, and it’s available on every WordPress.com plan, including yours.
The guide staartmees shared has everything you need to know about using excerpts.
If anything else comes up, don’t hesitate to reach out. Happy writing!
