Writing new posts issue

Please tell me how I can stop the draft auto-saving on the New Post screen from constantly “jumping” up to the top of the new post, while I’m still trying to type the end of the post? It seems to happen after the length of the post reaches a certain point. “Holding” my scrollbar all the way down as I try to type doesn’t even help. While I’m grateful that content is constantly auto-saved as the post is written, this aspect of same is right about to drive me round the bend.

    Any help or advice? Thanks!!

If you have Windows PC then you can install Windows Live Writer and use it to write your Posts or Pages then unload when you have finished writing them – WLW is free – look over at cnet.com for the download.

There are also some programs for the Mac but I don’t think they are free.

WLW does not have the jump thing. I now use WLW for almost everything – upload then fine tune the Tags and publish.

What browser and version are you using? I haven’t seen this error since I stopped using Explorer, years ago.

Yep, I agree with raincoaster this sounds like IE6 behavior to me as well.

    Please answer raincoaster’s question.

P.S. Here’s the link for the windows live writer info. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/windows-live-writer/

    auxclass, raincoaster, and timethief-

Thank you all so much for the extremely prompt responses to my dilemma, the effort and top-notch user support are very appreciated.

raincoaster: I’m actually using a loaner laptop while mine is being repaired. This machine uses Windows XP and Internet Explorer 8. I vastly prefer Google Chrome, but both times I tried it on my own laptop with Windows Vista everything went wonky, hence the now second repair. Have never tried Opera, and don’t know anyone who has. I’d hate to need resort using Mozilla Firefox, but there it is.

auxclass: Windows Live Writer sounds a viable option, thanks for the helpful referral to cnet. I’d figured on simply writing up the posts in Word, then copying and pasting, but I’m intruiged by this alternative.

timethief: I will follow all the steps you kindly outlined, for general purposes. Anything that makes IE less of a pain in the arse couldn’t hurt. The heads-up about restarting was good to know, will remember that. As I explained to raincoaster, the whole browser-switching issue is still a conundrum. Firefox. Ugh. *SEETHE. Hate.* Also, I will definitely read the link you thoughtfully provided for WLW.

Again, thank you for your time and all your expert help. I’m sure this won’t be the last instance I’ll need something, but knowing top drawer resources are here for me is a great relief. :)

    Until next,

Are you aware that wordpress.com recommends Firefox?

Note: We recommend that you use Firefox for optimal performance with WordPress.com. http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

P.S. For me IE is the last resort. I only use it when I help other people. I’m a Firefox user. :)

Try setting IE8 compatibility view to either on if it is off or off if it is on.
