Wrong Statistics?
-
My most recent blog post according to WP has gotten 0 views, 0 likes but somehow 3 comments. Now I know that at least 5 people have viewed it because they have discussed it with me. Are word press stats just not working at all for anyone?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Our stats are page view stats. If I visit your blog and click into 10 posts that will be recorded as 1 visitor and 10 page views. But please do not assume that everyone who clicks a follow, like, share, reblog or comment link actually reads the post on your blog because odds are they may not.
Follow, like, share, reblog or comment clicks are not page views. In fact, follows, likes, shares, comments and reblogs are completely misleading when you are talking about page view stats.
Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com/Gravatar account who is logged into WordPress.com can “follow” your blog, “like”, “share” and “reblog” your posts and “comment” in several locations such as the Reader, without ever clicking into your blog and creating a single page view stat. Subscribers control how frequently they receive your posts (instantly, daily, weekly) and can comment without clicking into the blog.
Logged in wordpress.com members can read full posts in the wordpress.COM Reader now, so there is no incentive for them to click into your site.

Ok, please don’t assume that I don’t understand the difference between engagements and views. I’m saying it’s logical to assume that if someone commented on my blog post on my blog it’s pretty safe to assume that they viewed, considering it’s on the same page. However, my view count remains 0. My concern is that I do not direct a majority of my views from WordPress subscriptions but rather from FaceBook. I do not believe these views are being counted and I think something is wrong with the algorithm or is there a different plugin I should be using to monitor views directed from social media.

They could have commented on the post in the Reader. One would think that would produce a stat but perhaps it is just a page view attributed to the Reader. If so that is odd.
Let’s ask Staff to assist you with sorting this out. I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. BTW exactly what is the URL starting with http:// of the site you are referring to? I am asking because the one linked to your username has been deleted.

Hi there,
For what site is this? https://supportcfafdotcom.wordpress.com/ has been empty for more than a year, so shouldn’t have been getting any stats at all, and has also been deleted since you started this thread. It’s not possible to check your stats if you don’t provide the correct site for us.
Keep in mind that if your settings allow the full post content to be sent to email subscribers, those subscribers can read the entire post without ever visiting your site. And if they comment on your post via Facebook instead of on your blog itself it won’t generate any views for your site either.

Yes that was an alternate test site that was under my account and I deleted it to make sure it wasn’t interfereing I’m not sure why it posted as the site that required assistance for this forum, the website that I’m trying to configure stats for is caitlinlombardi.com
-
Right. That is a self-hosted site using Jetpack stats.
On which post did you receive 3 comments without any views? I don’t have access to that site’s dashboard, so I can’t look at your recent comments directly. On your most recent post, published on 31 January, there are only 2 comments from 2 weeks ago.
And what I said about email subscriptions still apply. If someone reads your post via email and then discuss it with you on Facebook, they never visit your site once in the entire process and it will not generate any views.
Also keep in mind that just because someone comment via Facebook it doesn’t mean they read the post. There has been a lot of research done about this, and it has been confirmed repeatedly that with the majority of Facebook comments, commenters never actually read the articles that they’re commenting about.
