Youtube embeds on new post editor don't work.

Hello. Embedding youtube videos does not seem to work using the new post editor. I tried the long and short URLs and also the <object> and <iframe> codes provided on youtube, but it either just created a hyperlink or did nothing when previewing the post. I tried using the text editor as well and it’s just the same. Switching back to the old post editor it works absolutely fine with just the short youtube URL. So it’s not a problem for me now that I know, but it’s something you might want to look into to save a lot of people a lot of time and head scratching!

I’d like to clarify, when you paste a YouTube URL into the new editor, is the embed not working in the editor itself? Or in the post created?

If I paste in a youtube URL to the new editor, the status at the bottom of the editor box says embedURL. However when I preview the post, the URL is shown as a hyperlink – it doesn’t actually embed the video. Doing this on the old edited works fine – the video is embedded in the blog post.

I just tested this in the new editor. Our new editor embed seems to be working, so I actually see the video embedded in the editor:
It looks like your version of Safari is a little outdated. Is it possible for you to update? Or can you try a different browser like Firefox or Chrome?

Yeah, that doesn’t happen for me, it just stays as the URL. That in itself wouldn’t be a problem if the embedding worked when previewing and publishing the post (as it does with the old editor).
I’m using the latest version of Safari (5.1.10) available for my OS (MacOS 10.6.8) – my old Mac Mini still works perfectly so I’m not upgrading just for the sake of it. This is the first time I’ve found something that doesn’t work on it.
As long as the old editor is available it’s not a problem – for all its faults I find it easier to use than the new one anyway. -
Whoops! Apparently the release of that feature was accidental, we’re still doing some testing so it’s been reverted. Sorry for the confusion. :)
I’ve tested this again and am still not able to recreate this issue in Safari, Chrome, or Firefox. I would love to know if this works as expected in Chrome or Firefox for you.
In case you missed it, there’s an opt out at the bottom of the sidebar in the new editor that will save a cookie to your system so that you’ll be directed to the classic editor instead.
