Zuki Theme – 'show if' logic not working on widgets

  Hello,

  I’ve purchased the Zuki theme and read all documentation. I am creating a custom homepage, and adding the Zuki ‘recent posts’ widgets. You are supposed to be able to narrow down the posts shown via the recent post widget by category, or tag. This is accomplished by setting a ‘show if’ option to ‘category’ and then selecting a category from your blog.

  The recent post widget ONLY works if you show all categories. However the theme is built to utilize 4-6 recent post widgets on the homepage, narrowing down by category.

  The recent post widget does NOT work if you use ‘show if’ then ‘category’, or ‘tag’, or any other selectable parameter.

  Of note: When I am going to select a category from my blog, it is only showing 4 of 8 categories to choose from. I can confirm that I do indeed have 8 categories set up via Posts > Categories.

  Thank you for any help. This malfunction renders the theme almost useless because the homepage is built and formatted to surface recent posts by category.

  Follow-up notes…

  Not showing all categories in ‘show if’ dropdown:
  I figured out this was because I hadn’t yet used all categories. Please disregard this as part of troubleshooting.

  The ‘show if’ option is not working across all Zuki specific widgets:
  Zuki: Big Recent Posts
  Zuki: Medium Recent Posts
  Zuki: Recent Posts Background Color
  Zuki: Small Recent Posts

  I tried adding / editing the widgets both via
  Appearance > Customizer > Widgets and
  Appearance > Widgets.

  If I create the widget, set categories to all, it works. Then if I set ‘show if’, does not work. If I then change the widget back to ‘all categories’, it doesn’t work this time. When I say ‘doesn’t work’ this means that all content within the widget does not appear, and there is a blank white screen.

  Because this is wordpress.com hosted, we do not have any plugins installed that could be conflicting with Zuki widgets.

  Okay! I solved the problem, and will write it out here for anyone else with the same issue.

  Do not use the ‘show if’ option within the widgets. Instead, hand write the category you want to use in
  Recent Post Widget > ‘Category slug (optional):’

  While this title ‘category slug’ isn’t intuitive, you fill out the name of one of your categories here, and it works!

  Sorry for the confusion! I’m glad you found the solution for your site. If you run into any more trouble like this with the Zuki theme and its features, you’re also welcome to get help directly from the theme author in the Zuki support forum. You can also make suggestions there if you think the theme author could improve any of the theme’s features to make them clearer or easier to use. :)
