Bio
Multimedia artist living in Barnstaple, North Devon, the South West of England. In my work I attempt to convey the beauty of North Devon and find constant inspiration from the local coastline and wildness of the Exmoor National Park. I prefer to use the rich colours of acrylic and mixed media to convey the vivid contrasts of light and dark. Stormy skies over winter beaches or wind bent coastal trees are particular favourites of mine with which to draw inspiration. Recently, buttercups of cadmium yellow in summer meadows have been heavily influencing my work. I constantly fight to achieve a freshness of image and attempt to achieve a free style with expressive technique. For me this ideal is constantly evolving and often eludes me at the worst possible moments.
Apart from full colour I also work in pen and ink which has been an influence from my technical past. Within this type of work I look for dramatic contrasts between black and white to enhance my subject matter. Most of this type of work is usually sold as prints as the original works take both concentration and considerable time. I hope in future to complete a series of large scale watercolours of our local beaches to express their angry skies and barren sands.
