Bio
BIOGRAPHY & CONTACT INFO:
Barry Conner is an American artist whose work has been attracting attention since childhood. From the time he began walking and talking, from his earliest of memories, he has been doing artwork. And art has always remained a primary interest. It turned out also to become a very effective way to communicate. A hasty drawing on some scrap of paper, or on a paper towel or napkin, could quickly simplify a description or an explanation.
Growing up in East Texas, throughout Barry's childhood he participated and excelled in countless art shows and contests. His parents recognized his abilities and his interest from the beginning. They provided whatever materials he needed to develop his talent, took family trips to art exhibits and museums, and supported him through evey endeavor and opportunity. By the age of twelve, Barry had participated in an adult exhibit of wildlife art with The Audubon Society, and had sold acrylic paintings at the annual downtown arts and crafts fair. He even had been the subject of the feature magazine in the local, Huntsville Item newspaper.
Eventually, Barry went on to major in Fine Arts at Sam Houston State University, with a Studio Art emphasis in Sculpture; and studied under such notable artists as sculptor Charles Pebworth, printmaker Stanley E. Lea, and painters Gaddis Geeslin and Harry J. Ahysen.
In 2013, Barry and his wife relocated to the Kingwood-Humble area in the northeast of Houston. His work was exhibited in the 2014 Small Works Art Show at The Red Palette Art Gallery in downtown Humble. In 2015 and 2016, Barry served as the Resident Scenic Artist for Texas Repertory Theatre (The Champions). He also was artist's assistant to the internationally acclaimed Houston abstract painter Marilyn Biles.
Barry is actively developing several new paintings, with an emphasis, since 2013, on large-canvas works in acrylic. Also ongoing work with the Barry Conner Gallery of Art, and Floral Vistas Garden Boutique and Gallery in Canyon Lake, Texas. His artwork is available online at BarryConnerFineArts.com and may be securely purchased at that site through his Square.com store.
Barry's professional experience, artistic vision, and versatility span the range of genre and art media:
Fine Art pieces include nature, landscape, and wildlife scenes; realistic illustrations; avant-garde, symbolic, and surrealist works; expressionism and abstract expressionism; minimalism; plein air; still life; and both traditional portraiture and paintings of cherished pets...
Painted Fine Art murals and trompe l’oeil illusions for both private and commercial locations...
Drawings in pen-and-ink, graphite, charcoal, and conte...
Also:
Sculptures; jewelry design, fabrication, and lost-wax castings; lapidary and faceting of gemstones; ceramics; glasswork; zinc-plate etching, stone lithography, inked woodcut, digitally-created prints, and other varieties of printmaking; even knapping of both ornamental stones and functional arrowheads. Barry also has experience in a range of commercial, digital, and Web art.
Despite a rich and varied background in visual arts, music, and the literary; Barry's passion and joy for creating Fine Art remains undimmed — whether his spontaneous originals or unique commissioned works imagined and created at the request of a client.
Whatever your Fine Art needs, Barry Conner would love to hear from you.
