Bio
I am a Geological Engineer turned Location Tech Geek who grew up and went to school in Senegal before landing in Quebec on a Canadian scholarship more than two decades ago. Ingénieur géologue (Ing.) by training. I hold a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Water Sciences with Geomatics applications and an MBA in Business Management focusing on IT management. With over 20 years of experience, I have held various roles including Geomatics Director in the telecommunications sector at Axsera Inc. in Montreal, Canada; GIS Specialist and Project Coordinator in the public safety and new technologies sector at Intrado Inc. in Montreal, Canada; Geomatics Research Professional in the federal public sector at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in Quebec, Canada; GIS Analyst and Information Resources Manager in the provincial public sector at the Ministry of Natural Resources of Ontario in Timmins and Hearst, Canada; and Junior Geomatics Specialist at the Quebec firm BBGL-International in Vientiane, Laos.
From August 2013 to December 2015 in Senegal, I led the GENHY Consulting Firm, which I co-founded, before joining the Senegalese administration as Director of National Cartography at the Directorate of Geographical Works and Cartography (DTGC) at the National Agency for Territorial Planning (ANAT) in Senegal (2016-2022).
Internationally, I chaired the United Nations Expert Committee on Geomatics (UN-GGIM: Africa) for Africa from 2018 to 2022 and was a member of the Extended Bureau of UN-GGIM at the global level. I contributed to the development of the United Nations Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (UN-IGIF), a joint initiative with the World Bank.
As a senior executive, I have always been involved in a variety of cross-sectoral activities within large public and private organizations managing complex business processes. My responsibilities have covered business and personnel administration, management of the implementation and monitoring and evaluation of large-scale programs and projects leveraging ICT and mapping, project formulation and design, development of project and program implementation plans, budgeting for activities to achieve strategic objectives, and establishing project teams.
Within the Senegalese administration, I have interacted with a range of state and non-state actors, helping to formulate projects, negotiate financing with donors (AfDB and JICA), and plan/supervise their implementation.
Finally, since September 2022, I have returned to entrepreneurial passion to lead GENHY again.
