Bio
I once had very inspirational blog (it inspired me, not sure about others), but I felt it was time to move on from that. Time to start a new chapter. My previous blog was highly therapeutic and what I needed at that particular time to guide me through life.
I'm a bit (small tiny bit) more grown up now and see the world a little differently. At the time I had my previous blog, it really was a "coming out" story. People think that "coming out" stories are reserved for the LGBTQI+ community but it's not. It's for us as well. Those of us who have been diagnosed with a mental health "issue". I am not sure why it has to be referred to as a "challenge", an "issue", a "problem", or use the word "suffer". We don't "suffer", it's not an "issue" and it is not a "problem". Yes, it can be a challenge, but it's a challenge most of us overcome day in and day out and you know nothing about it.
There are endless amounts of articles, blogs, videos and all sorts of campaigning for 'mental health'. We even have our own day dedicated to us! Thanks! However, it's not a "day". It's a LIFE. It's a life of living with something that I don't even understand at times, let alone anyone that is "normal". When the topic comes up, things get uncomfortable because as much as it is so called "accepted" and so "like totally normal these days", it still makes people shift uncomfortably in their seats.
More than that, imagine being proud of your mental health diagnosis and so called "challenge"? Imagine rocking up at a client lunch and announcing with pure effect "Hey ya'll, I'm Bipolar, Boom!" - your career would end in seconds. Why? Why is it still so taboo? Why shouldn't you be allowed to shout if from the roof tops? Why should you hide it? Literally, WHY?
I'll tell you why. It makes OTHER people uncomfortable.
No matter how much we try to fight the stigma, it's still there. It will be there for quite some time until we start to actually recognize, acknowledge and guess what, CELEBRATE it. Some of the most interesting, fascinating and forward-thinking people I know are all diagnosed with some sort of mental health issue! Why? Because they are off the wall and have lost the plot! Is that such a bad thing? Maybe losing the so-called "plot" is what we need to see things differently. Maybe we shouldn't be "on the plot". Maybe we need lose it all together to find the creativity, meaning and all round fucked-upness of life. And let me tell you personally, it's pretty spectacular.
So to let's get to the point - the point is this - let's chat - let's engage - let's have a voice - let's create a platform for people to SHOUT FROM THE ROOF TOPS because it's actually "COOL" to be DIFFERENT!
Whether you are in your teens, your 20's, your dirty 30's, your mid-life crisis, or just in your 80's realizing you're some level of fucked up - I have news for you - we're all a little f-d up.
Let's be better. Let's be proud. Let's be US.
