Bio
My mission in life is to mind my own business and keep an open mind.
Evaluate the nature of the physical world.
Learn about life's origin and evolution.
Encourage creativity in others as well as myself. Evaluate the nature of human decision making and factors influencing them.
Contribute to the Gross National Happiness of those in my sphere of influence.
Never eat parts of another mammal without a proper prayer of thanks.
I'm interested in many things and I'm very interested in weather. The world is bigger than the weather. What causes climate trends? What is the big picture? Is global warming a phenomena or a trend?
I was the California State Climatologist for many years, retired and still work part time.
My interest in rainfall started on the day I reported for work at the US Weather Bureau in Sacramento. It was a day when the road into Yosemite Valley was washed out. This was an exciting event for the first day on the job of a new recruit. Flood forecasting studies being done at that time were based on messages arriving by phone from a broad ranging corps of volunteer weather and stream flow observers.
I was amazed to find 100 years of historic monthly rain records in the office. Volunteer observers compiled the early records starting in 1849 for the Smithsonian Institution. I wanted to know more about those records. To this day I keep those records and base my own theories on global occurrences on what they show.
My thoughts in motion are these daily poems.
