Bio
Meet the Escalantes. True to our Colorado home, when we don’t have to be indoors, we aren’t. We are a family of two adults and two boys. Provoked by Dad’s latin heritage, we have been fantasizing about a Spanish speaking adventure for years now. There’s always a reason not to go . . . .and they’re good reasons! Work, health problems, mortgage, fear of the unknown and plain old laziness held us up for a couple of years. Then, one year ago, we got serious. No, obsessed with the idea of living in South America for one year. We are Connect Cuatro.
Dad, Eric was meant to live latin. Spending most of his childhood summers in Mexico with his family, Eric doesn’t just speak Spanish, he is wired for it. By day he works as an administrator for Western State Colorado University but by night he is the man who get’s sh@t done! Need a shed built, stereo wired, computer reprogrammed? Call Eric . . . but call him after 10pm! A self-proclaimed chocoholic, Eric can down a quart of ice cream daily and still shop in the children’s section with his sons. Slightly on the obsessive compulsive side of life, Eric is the “little man with a big plan”. He is very pleased to be moving to a country that eats dinner at 10pm. Even more exciting, he can’t wait to expose the other “little men” to the latin world!
Mom, Missy has her doctorate in physical therapy and has worked in all kinds of settings from home health to outpatient services over the past 14 years. She loves hearing her older patients’ life stories and is ready to come up with a story of her own. Having through hiked the Appalachian trail and run with the 10th ranked NCAA cross-country team are her favorite past adventures. Mothering two scrawny boys is her greatest honor. She can’t wait to become an official helicopter mom for a year!
Diego, age 8 has a social life. Eternally playful and merry, Diego can arrive at a park in a different town and make a friend before he exits the car. Diego loves all people, animals, and life. Despite our routine teaching about stranger danger, we are pretty sure Diego would get into a car with the Grim Reaper himself. Diego is a voracious reader, as long as the story is happy. Anything remotely sad warrants tears from Diego. He can’t wait to make friends in Argentina.
Mateo, age 6 keeps the rest of us in line. Speaking in sentences at age one, Mateo can give a mini-lecture about any topic without warning. There is only silence in our house when Mateo is sleeping. He is strangely wise and spiritual beyond all of us. Mateo is loyal to his few friends and brother . . . beware to the Grim Reaper as he would punch the daylights out of anyone who would threaten those dear to him. If Mateo loves you, you will have your “neck chubbed” (don’t ask). You may also get one of his treasures (anything from a ladybug to a coin or interesting stone). He’s a snuggler, a collector, another little man with a big plan . . . big plans that he will take to Argentina.
We are Connect Cuatro, 4 IN . . . foreign.
