Bio
Eric J. Reed is a honor graduate of Winston-Salem State University, where he completed his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in the Spring of 2013. At Winston-Salem State University, Reed was a part of the Honors Program and he was the president of Alpha Theta Kappa, WSSU's chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society. Reed was also the CRO/CIO of the Talented-Tenth Male Mentoring Brotherhood. At WSSU, he was a senator for the Pre-Law Society, and also a fellow of the Pre-Law Academy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the summer of 2012. In February 2016, Reed was selected as a top student to participate in the NASPAA 2016 Student Simulation Competition where graduate students created and advocated on behalf of their climate change model; Reed was upon the winning team. While in graduate school at North Carolina Central University, he completed his certification in strategic leadership.
Reed is a graduate of the Masters of Public Administration degree program at North Carolina Central University. In the fall of 2016, he will begin his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in public administration and urban policy at Old Dominion University. His career goals are to become a university administrator and professor in public policy/political science. His research interests inlude: human trafficking (civil remedies afforded to victims), the contemporary relevance of DuBois's theory of the Talented Tenth, and the impact standardized exams have on college admittance of African Americans.
