Bio
My name is Rachael. I'm a writer. I have cerebral palsy. I Just graduated from UCLA Extension Writer's Program with a certificate in Fiction Writing. in March 2016. My goal in doing this website is to get the attention of editors who publish devotionals, and perhaps fulfill my dream of creating or writing for a devotional magazine for children, specifically children with disabilities. I want children to know It’s okay to have both positive and negative feelings about their disability. It’s not easy having a disability. Just don’t stay in that negative place all the time. Like my mom says, “Focus on what you can do rather than on what you can’t.”
Another goal is to give readers an inside look into my daily life, and offer hope as I share the life lessons I’ve learned through my many experience, both past and present. For instance, in one of my writings, I talk about my feelings in first grade when my hands couldn’t write. Although I consider myself to be a very positive person, it doesn’t mean I’m happy all the time. Sometimes, I wish I didn’t have cerebral palsy, but I know having challenges and depending on other people has taught me a lot. I believe my Christian faith has been the biggest help in learning to cope with my disability so well. I want people to know that having a disability doesn’t mean they can’t do things; they may have to do them differently.
On my blog I talk about the many adventures and challenges I face with CP. You’ve probably already read the headline. It says: 'Faith Lived Dangerously!' I'm the kind of person who will do almost anything for excitement. If someone says, “Rachael, Don’t you think this is a little dangerous?" My immediate response is, “Danger is my middle name!” I was born two months premature on February 8, 1983. Doctors didn’t think I would live because of lack of oxygen to the brain when I was born. I proved them wrong! I made it out of the nursery! Now, here I am 33 years later! My first book,” The Hunt for Heaven" has been published through Chaplain Publishing. I have two articles published and I'm working on putting together a portfolio. My articles have been published in the "Santa Clarita Magazine," my local magazine, and the "Canyon Call," my college newspaper. I'm currently working on a devotional book via this blog site.to I hope you enjoy my writing. If you have any questions, comments, or writing ideas, feel free to let me know. Are you ready for an adventure? Hold On! It's going to be a bumpy ride! As I often say, “Don’t be afraid of the bumps in the road and be prepared to live dangerously!”
