Bio
John Newton is a freelance writer, journalist, novelist and teacher. As a journalist he has written on food, farming and the environment for The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Art of Eating, The Weekend Australian Magazine, The Asian Wall Street Journal, Wellbeing and Slow.
His three Spanish books for Murdoch are A Little Taste of Spain, Cooking Spanish and The Food of Spain. His last book for Murdoch was The Roots of Civilisation: a history of plants that changed the world. Grazing: the ramblings and recipes of a man who gets paid to eat was published by New Holland and A Savage History: whaling in the Pacific and southern Oceans was published by NewSouth. His most recent book is The Oldest Foods on Earth: A history of Australian native foods with recipes, also published by NewSouth. John has won many awards for his writing including the Golden Ladle for Best Food Journalism in the 2005 World Food Media Awards.
