Bio
Bio-Note.
Dr. Gurram Seetaramulu is a poet, editor, story writer and a political analyst. His areas of interests include politics, literature, history and translation. He was born to a Dalit couple in 1975 in a small village named Tallampadu near Khammam in Telangana, India. He has extensively contributed his articles to various Telugu dailies and journals in different political contexts. He presented papers on a variety of research topics in India as well as abroad. His response to the social inequalities and discrimination that he faced in childhood shaped him into a story teller and a poet. He graduated from School of Interdisciplinary Studies at The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) and finished his Doctoral Thesis on ‘Translating the Jambapurana: The cultural Genealogy, Memory, History, and Identity’. His writings appeared in ‘The Oxford University Anthology of Telugu Dalit Writing’ (2016 OUP) amongst others.
He lives in Hyderabad and works as an independent researcher on Dalit studies. He was born in Khammam district and then moved to Hyderabad to graduate with a Master of Arts (English) in Osmania University in Hyderabad, Telangana. He analyzed the society not only from academic perspective but also from the standpoint of real-life social realities. What really shaped his consciousness is liberation from social exploitation, inequalities and injustice faced by millions of Dalits throughout the history. As a person born in Dalit community, he understood how democracy and justice were limited to a small section of rich and powerful elite. Currently, he has been working with the Hyderabad city unit of the Civil Liberties Committee. He is also engaged in translation of Telugu Dalit literature into English.
Seetaramulu has also written articles and reports in various newspapers, online websites and social media platforms for the past 15 years about contemporary Dalit and people’s movements. He compiled and published Shiva Sagar Poetry (1931-2012) on behalf of his own publishing house (Raghul Publication,Hyderabad), along with introduction and annotations for each poem respectively. He contributed several testimonials and contemporary issues for Web portals like Round Table India and India Resists have carried his poetry as well as articles. His literary criticisms and book reviews were also part of many anthologies.
