Bio
My name is Henry Hunter Jr. I'm an artisan bread baker, author, and the founder of two communities built around one idea: that every home baker deserves to bake bread they're proud of.
I started baking during my time in the military, where a German baker named Herr Sherman taught me that bread isn't just food — it's a practice, a ritual, and a connection to something much older than any of us. That lesson has never left me.
Today I lead Baking Great Bread at Home, a Facebook community of 50,000+ bakers where beginners and experienced bakers learn alongside each other every day. I also founded Crust & Crumb Academy on Skool, where members go deeper — weekly bake-alongs, structured courses, and real coaching in a community built for progress, not performance.
I've written six books on bread, including Sourdough for the Rest of Us, From Oven to Market, and The Yeast Water Handbook. My philosophy hasn't changed since Herr Sherman handed me that first loaf: perfection is not required. Progress is.
Flour, water, salt, and yeast. In the right hands, that's enough.
Welcome. Reach out anytime.
