Bio
Hi all, I am an ecologically-based landscape architect with my roots in the LA area. Now in Humboldt County (not growing weed, sorry, you probably know more about it than me!) where yes, I practice landscape architecture, but also dabble in other creative and mischievous projects - usually though not always with undertones of political commentary or looking to initiate ideas that can change the way we do things. I'm expressive, and have been corked up for a few years here, so I think it's time to restart with sharing some thoughts.
LA Creek Freak was for many years a vehicle for self-expression. You may have landed at this profile via that site. As time allows, I occasionally add posts still, but it has slowed down a lot.
As an LA Creekfreak, I spent about 12 years dedicated to tracking the lost streams and springs of LA, and surfacing their histories. It was tremendously healing for me, as an angelena, to break through the lie of LA-as-desert that seemed to rationalize our collective development abuse of the land, and in finding remnant streams and springs, to connect with something far more deep and meaningful than the shiny, hard surface that the city projects to the world. I also worked to restore those streams, and while I can't say we unleashed a revolution, a stream in Burbank flows free of an impervious channel today, in part because I had a seat at the table - - and an enlightened person listening decided to say YES (and a team that brought it all together). I can't say enough about the role of political will. Restoring urban creeks, bringing back the stream spirits, remains a passion and motivator for me.
