Bio
My name is Jenna and I am currently in the process of planning a gap year before heading off to university next fall. I grew up in a small country farm town of 200 people and nearly 100% Caucasian. This is probably the reason why I crave diversity so much now and am so fascinated by different people and cultures. I immediately developed a passion for traveling after participating in a mission trip to Anchorage, Alaska in the summer of 2006 - I enjoyed getting to know the locals there and exploring the beautiful state! Since then, I have traveled a good majority of the United States. This past summer, I went on a road trip with friends to Los Angeles, California, driving through many different states! Now, I can't wait to explore different countries of the world!
A little about my trip: I will be living with a host family in Spain for 3 months and teaching English as a second language. While here, I plan on exploring Granada, Seville, Ibiza, Barcelona, Avilla, and Toledo. Fortunately, one of my best friends (Liz) decided to take a year off from school, too, and we will be sharing this year long adventure together! After 3 months in Spain, we plan to backpack for a month through Morocco (including a tour in the Sahara Desert!!), then will spend around 2 months in the UK and Ireland, Europe for around 2 months, and we then plan to end our trip in Israel, exploring Bethlehem and Jerusalem! Granted we still have money, we are very tempted to visit Egpyt as well (Cairo and Mt. Moses!). I am beyond excited for this trip and can't wait to begin blogging my experiences. On this blog, I mostly plan to write about and post pictures of the unique places I will be going to and the things I have learned about the world, different cultures, and traveling in general. My main goals this year are to improve my Spanish, explore and experience other cultures and different people, develop a better understanding of the relations between the places I will be traveling to and my home country, and visit the historical sites in person that I have only ever learned about through books.
A few more random things about me....my family and friends are very important to me. My prospective major in college is International Relations. I love reading and writing. I think setting goals and doing everything you can to achieve them is extremely important....and helping others to achieve theirs! I am a very open-minded, adventurous, honest, compassionate person. I love listening to the stories and opinions of others. I love all types of music, as well as dancing and movies. I believe life experiences are always worth the money. I love meeting new people. I tend to be very contemplative and analyze the meaning of everything. I use to tend to plan out my life and future as much as I can, however, I am finally starting to learn that life never goes as you expect it to. I think it is very important to live life for you and follow your aspirations....not the aspirations that others may have for you. I am still searching for my purpose in this world :)
