Bio
I am your average American citizen with a passionate love for our country.
I am a middle aged African-American woman. I am an elderly white man. I am a newborn child whose parents came from Vietnam and I am the grandson of a Native American. I am Catholic, Jewish, agnostic, Hindu and Muslim. I am the amalgam of all that has made this country the beacon of liberty and freedom.
I am the youngest of six siblings. I am an only child. I am married and feel alone. I am single and am supported by the love of my friends. I am an elderly widow. I am a man who just celebrated his 8th anniversary with his same-sex partner.
I am a factory worker. I am an entrepreneur. I am looking for employment. I have just retired from a lifetime of labor. I am rich. I am poor. I am middle class. I am grateful that I was born in a country where I could be everything that I chose to be.
I am politically conservative. I am socially liberal. More importantly I reject these convenient labels as being too simplistic to describe me or those whom I meet. I take people at face value and allow them through their actions to define themselves.
Most of all, I am concerned that we Americans - people just like you and me - have allowed the great traditions and values established in the Declaration of Independence and in the Constitution of the United States -- to be trampled on, overlooked and ignored by those we elect to public office..
I believe that while it may be cathartic to rant about our elected officials - we must take the responsibility and - more importantly - take the actions necessary - to find people who truly want to serve us and this country. If we do not, this wonderful land which we inherited from those who went before us will be lost to our children and grandchildren. And that would truly be a tragedy.
This blog is my way of communicating with my fellow Americans, many of whom share my frustrations and concerns.
But it is not enough merely to criticize those things that are "wrong". It is important to offer options and new approaches which might make things "right". This blog will attempt to offer some suggestions both through humor and by suggesting new "out of the box" ways of thinking. Most of these rely on one simple principle - the application of common sense to each problem.
Simple solutions almost always provide the best answers - yes, even to complex problems. If you feel as I do, I look forward to your following my progress and to your valuable input.
