Bio
After graduating from Adelaide University majoring in English and Psychology Karl Brettig began work as a secondary teacher. He was also involved in developing Christian communities and in the Lutheran Renewal movement. He later became Director of Outreach and Community Services at Good Shepherd Lutheran Para Vista and went on to manage Salisbury Communities for Children, a community development initiative of the Australian Government. The site developed several innovations including family hubs, an early years parenting community, a wellbeing classroom concept and parenting resources. With a collaboration of child and family support stakeholders, he convened the Children Communities Connections Learning Network, bringing together practitioners, policy makers and researchers to develop effective practice in providing integrated and holistic support for children and families. With Professor Margaret Sims he co-edited Building Integrated Connections for Children their Families and Communities based on proceedings from the 2010 Children Communities Connections conference. Building Stronger Communities with Children and Families was developed from themes presented at the 2012 conference. He also edited the eBook Quality Play and Media in Childhood Education and Care in partnership with the Australian Council on Children and the Media. He recently authored Changing Hearts Changing Communities and is currently developing BeamWords Media.
