Bio
Steve Craven is a former American diplomat who served in Washington, Honolulu, Taipei, Bonn, Singapore, Vienna, Bratislava and Denver. Steve spent 31 years with the U.S. Department of Commerce as a trade negotiator and as a commercial officer assigned to American embassies to help sell U.S. products overseas. He was one of the U.S. negotiators of the Tokyo Round trade agreements, which explains some of his more wonkish interests. Negotiations took him often to Geneva, as well as to Brussels, Jakarta, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Kuala Lumpur and Bogota. You get around in this business.
Steve set up his own consulting firm, Kekepana International Services, from 2004 to 2013 when he retired. Steve currently is an associate member of the National District Export Council steering committee. He chaired the Hawaii Pacific Export Council from 2007 to 2013 and remains an active member.
He is also a competitive outrigger canoe paddler and has a graduate degree in fisheries economics, which may help explain some of his more aquatic posts.
