Bio
Laura Jean Zito composes with a Caravaggio-inspired affinity for casual action, looking for color schemes or black and white contrasts that symbolically represent emotions she interprets. As stills photographer on feature films, to get the shots that tell whole stories in single images, she finds her way next to the director at peak moments of action, without disturbing anyone on crew, though the stills photographer is there crucially to sell the movie and is the only one on set not actually making the movie. Other people skills came from years of shooting for NBC News Graphics, approaching strangers on the street to shoot stock photos. "By Hand," a 2024/25 exhibition at Aras An Chontae in Roscommon, Ireland, evolved from a solo show at Ballina Arts Centre held previously at the National Museum of Country Life’s Courtyard Gallery, followed up by Berlin's Irish Embassy 2020 "Ireland in Frame," of six Irish street photographers. In 2022, "Edge of Humanity" magazine published her series “Ironic Age” online. She was a winner in LACP 's 2021 "7th Annual Street Photographers Around the World." All About Photo Magazine published her in Issue 22 "Streets," "Totally Dublin" on the May 2021 "In the Frame" page, and Catamaran Magazine Winter 21/22 paired her Middle East photos with a short story about Palestine. She was Highly Commended in Belfast Photo Festival Open 2024 and 2023, honoured in the 18th, 17th, 16th and 15th Annual International Color Awards; 19th, 18th, and 17th Annual B&W Spider Awards. She founded an art photography gallery, Fotoforum, on 5th Ave and 47th St in NYC for female photographers.
