Bio
Hi there! I am currently living and writing in the Bay Area. Since my childhood I was fascinated by healing professions as a combination of science, service and creative expression. The ability to use empathy, clinical training, and spiritual practice to positively impact and inform individuals, families and communities is what drew me to the field of yoga and, ultimately, nursing. I was raised on the East Coast and saw my mom, a dance movement therapist and my dad, a psychiatrist use authentic expression, movement, and nature to contribute to the field of mental health.
After receiving my 200hr yoga teaching certification from Frog Lotus Yoga in North Adams MA in 2009, I created Dancing Warrior Yoga instructing family and friends. I then went on to get a BA in Literature and a minor in Zoology from the University of Maine. After recieving my Bachelors of Science in nursing from the University of Maine, Fort Kent I began my career in the Intensive Care Unit and began incorporating modes of integrative medicine like yoga, breathwork, and meditation into my clinical toolkit at the bedside.
My spiritual practice and career as a nurse are what inform my writing- from stories at the bedside, to reflections about working through the covid-19 pandemic, to incorporating wellness practices into daily life I seek to deconstruct health and wellness topics in order to make them engaging and accessible to the people who need them.
Everywhere I have lived informs my writing and healing work; from the coastal farmlands of southern Maine, to Vietnam, New Orleans, and now San Francisco on the West Coast.
My work as a nurse is a combination of advocacy, clinical training, people skills, collaboration, and creative ingenuity as I am often called to go beyond the textbook and adapt to rapidly changing situations. This is why I believe mindfulness, movement and creative expression are central to healing both for clients and clinicians. Each day I am reminded that the individual, family and community are parts of a united whole regardless of how the wider social context makes it seem disparate. What impacts us on a small scale will inevitably ripple into the larger picture of wellness nationally and globally. I feel motivated to explore, contemplate and learn about the impact my voice has within the healthcare industry and believe that as a clinician I am obligated and reaponsible for trying to find and create solutions by raising awareness and spreading resources to the people who need them.
Thank you!
