Bio
Oki my name is Rachel CrowSpreadingWings. My Indian name is Naatoiikiimakii, Holy Feather Woman. I come from the Kainai First Nations in what is now Southern Alberta.
My mother raised me traditionally and home schooled me for many years in small town high in the Rocky Mountains called Basin.
When I was young she was asked to do an interview for a T.V. station in Missoula Montana. The Program Director allowed me to operate the camera. I was hooked. I knew I could do what I was viewing through that camera lens.
After graduating from college I became a co-host on a groundbreaking radio program called InnerTribal Beats soon after it started airing on Thin Air Radio 92.3 FM in Spokane Washington.
While living in the area I studied film for a year at Eastern Washington University.
When I moved home to Southern Alberta in 2010 I felt there wasn't enough of a voice from the local first nations community being heard by the general public. I pitched a show to the local cable station SHAW TV called Prairie Phyre First Nations News in Southern Alberta. Being community based they picked it up and aired my show. Through their guidance I returned to school at Lethbridge College for broadcasting.
Currently I am fishing my last year there and am looking forward to the future.
While in school I have been also pursing my love of designing clothing and my passion to sing. I have shown my line, Aapunii Creations, in a number of local fashion shows.
I plan to release my first CD of all original songs in the next few months.
As a parent and a dream achiever I push myself continuously so that my children will go out into the world as fearless as they arrived.
