Bio
I am a 59 year old retired veteran with 27 years of honorable military service, a family man married to his high school sweetheart of 37 years who blessed me with two beautiful and amazing daughters and a pragmatist continuing to work for that second pension with the U.S. Government in the intelligence division. But deep down and as far back as I can remember, I’m a dreamer who loves to write. My passion is for science fiction and fantasy and I found myself mesmerized by books and movies that took me to another time, world or place but not as an escape from reality, rather a means to build upon my already vivid imagination.
You see, whenever I get stressed or bored, drifting into my imaginary world is as easy as breathing and always provides relief and joy. At age 15, a group of great folks invited me to join their Dungeons and Dragons game which was awesome, but I quickly got bored with the TSR created modules and as I said earlier, I love to write. So, I created my own adventures that evolved into the world of Blackstone and was loved by all who took up their dice and imaginations and braved the mystical realm. Their encouragement and the fact that I had been reinventing my fictional world since I was about seven, led me to think bigger and in 2014 I was finally allotted the time to complete my first novel, The Power Within.
So, what have I been doing since 2014, you may wonder? Well, to be honest, a terrible job of finding that balance between family life, work, moving, a fixer-upper house and of course writing. In the past years things have settled down a little for the Benton home and job front allowing moments where I can sit and compose my six-book project, The Cole Tutor Chronicles. Currently, I’m half way through with the second novel in the series, which like my first novel, has been edited several times by Lorrie Johnson (Lnjs_editing). I’ve also been honing my writing skills by attending writer’s conferences, writing courses, surfing the web and trying my luck pitching my project to several agents through the query process. But be assured, no matter what happens in the administrative part of the publishing world, I will continue this epic story to its conclusion. It’s the least I can do.
