Hi, my name is Reneé. This is a blog about life, but comprised into of many parts. I have been a lifelong student on many subjects such as of health, fitness, well-being, public-speaking, energy healing, and positive thinking and through various classes I have taken many classes on these subjects and have received numerous awards and certifications. I've read hundreds of books and have used the knowledge and skills I have acquired to better my own life. It's time for me to be the teacher and share my knowledge and wisdom with others.
As a native Houstonian, I grew up with a passion for fitness. At the age of 12, I started jumping rope and doing crunches every single night. My parents thought I was crazy, but it was something I did for many years because I liked how it made me feel. I could eat anything I wanted and stayed in excellent physical shape for sports at school. I was proud of the fact that I could do all the jump rope maneuvers boxers did! And I could outrun all of my brother's teenaged friends….barefoot. I was known as the 'barefoot sprinter'.
My natural love for fitness grew as I played sports throughout my school years. I was a cheerleader in junior high and for the Houston Aeros hockey team. As a senior in high school, I was the captain of the dance/drill team that consisted of 85 girls. I then received a full dance scholarship to San Jacinto Jr. College, followed by a modern dance scholarship to Sam Houston State University. After college, When I moved back to Houston after college, I and quickly became part of the aerobics scene while working my way up to Assistant Publisher at Houston Health & Fitness Magazine.
During those years, I prepared myself to compete in national and international fitness competitions: Ms. Fitness USA, Ms. National Fitness, and Ms. Fitness World. I continuously consistently placed in the top 5. From Through my appearances in the magazines of national fitness publications, I made many excellent connections. I was honored to know and work with Dr. Atkins (of the famed Atkins Diet) and lead exercise classes on his Worldwide Atkins Cruises. In addition, I was the spokesperson for Met-Rx, the pioneer of protein powder food supplements. I then started my own publication in Houston called City Fitness Magazine, which I wound [founded?] and published for four years. During that time, I continued to teach step aerobics, kick-boxing, and high and low impact classes, while helping others to get in shape by speaking at seminars at World Gyms throughout Houston.
