WORK EXPERIENCE
1. Volunteer; Good Samaritan School for the Deaf – Kitengeesa (GSSD) (2008- present)
Having grown up in a deaf community; Good Samaritan school for the deaf, I endow different skills about the deaf community and Sign language is my other mother language. I volunteer at this school helping in teaching sign language to the deaf students, their parents during the sign language seminars at the school over holidays and also bringing community awareness of the deaf people in the community and the country at large. I am an interpreter for both the deaf and hearing at different occasions. I help in bringing the deaf to the community library (KCL) so that they can also have access to the available services there just like other community members. I also participate in the different activities that take place at the school.
2.Research Assistant of Ms. Kari Grain a Doctorate student University of British Columbia (UBC); Department of Education (July 2016- April 2017)
Theme: Hope and its Entanglement; Exploring the role of hope in a global service learning program in Kitengesa, Uganda.
I was responsible in translations/ interpretation: Ugandan Sign Language to English and the reverse for the Deaf participants in the research project and other members as well and also Luganda to English and the reverse to community leaders interviewed.
Co-authoring in the final research findings document; “How Ugandan Community leaders Envision change in the awake of the International Service- Learning.”
Taking photos according to the weekly theme of taking photos that can bring out the theme of the research and can clearly explain a story to a person looking at it.
Preparing for weekly workshops at Kitengesa Community Library where all members participating in the research project meet to discuss about the previous week’s theme of photos and also hand in photos taken in the week.
Performing administrative tasks like, printing photos, consent forms for the research, photocopying, communicating to other members about the meetings date and time and others.
Confidentiality; I was responsible to keep information of information of both members and other interviews made on different community leaders in the community confidentially.

3. Assistant Librarian/ Office Assistant at Uganda Community Libraries Association (UgCLA) (2016)
UgCLA, is an association that combines all the different registered community libraries in Uganda. It is also under the National Libraries Association (NLA).
Here I was doing activities like, photocopying, scanning, typing, printing and filing documents for the Association as well as cleaning the office generally, by dusting, and mopping the office.
I was also in charge of serving daily customers with internet, arranging and categorizing books to be sent to the different community libraries in Uganda.
I also helped in preparation for the board meetings and staff meetings that took place at the office, and also helped in writing the agenda, and taking minutes.
Generally I was in charge of the daily activities that took place at the UgCLA office.
4. Volunteer in the UWEZO Annual Reading Assessment in Masaka District, Uganda (Sept 2015)
UWEZO is an initiative of Twaweza East Africa, a Kiswahili word meaning ‘Capability’. It is a citizen led initiative, working across East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda); assessing children in basically literacy and numeracy skills, and collecting information from schools and households as well as inspiring citizens to take action to improve the learning levels of their children. The following were my roles in the assessment:
Explaining the key concept of the UWEZO Assessment and details about UWEZO to the family heads of the selected households in the enumeration area, the head teacher at the sampled primary school in the area as well as the Local council chairperson of the enumeration area
Assessing children’s competencies in Literacy, Local Language, and Numeracy at the sampled household between the ages of 6 to 16 years
Assessing the visual acuity of children in these households, and also communicating the findings / or giving instant feedback to the house hold heads / parents of the assessed children.
5. Library scholar/ Assistant Librarian Kitengesa Community Library (KCL) (2011-2015)
Kitengesa Community Library (KCL) is situated in Kitengesa- Lwannunda village near Kitengesa Comprehensive Secondary (KCSS). This is a community library where members from around the community and the neighboring villages come and have access to books (novels, educational books like dictionaries, farming, biology, chemistry, and others plus religion and moral books). It has groups such as the Women’s group (Self-help group), the Youth Leadership group, the Sign Language club, and also hosts a Health camp on a yearly basis. In these groups and classes, the community members are given chances to participate in the different activities carried out in these groups; and they are responsible for the daily running of the group. The library has a project for library scholars where it pays tuition for the selected students from the secondary school (KCSS and GSSD) and in turn the scholars chosen have to work for eight hours a week at the library. The following were my responsibilities and activities at the Library as a library scholar:
I was also responsible for the general cleanliness of the library and its compound and wash rooms by dusting, sweeping, mopping, and arranging books back into their selves according to categories and numbers.
I also helped in the different activities that took place in the library such as preparation of the health camps every holiday in a year (helping in preparation of lunch, serving it, cleaning utensils, and also preparation of the place where the camp was carried out). I helped in typing, filing, and organizing documents and also preparation of meetings that took place at the library. Furthermore I was a publicity officer in the Youth leadership group at the Library and a chairperson of the Social worker group; these groups merged and carry out activities like teaching about nutrition, HIV/ AIDS, community visits, family planning to families, environmental conservation and farming. The group also teach moral value to the youth, and many others.
I taught Ugandan sign language to the members in the sign language club who are from the community and also the neighboring secondary school; the ISL students at the Library and with help from Good Samaritan school for the Deaf- Kitengeesa. I also helped the Women’s group in its activities such as the Adult literacy classes, craft making, farming and others.
6. Sign language instructor; Foundation Hope Organization (FOHO): Under Sign Health Uganda (SU) (2013)
I taught Ugandan Sign Language to a group of people at Foundation of Hope in NyendoMasaka district under the supervision of Sign Health Uganda.FOHO is an organization that deals with street children in Masaka district. Whereas Sign Health Uganda is also an NGO that deals with people (basically children) with disability (deaf, dumb, blind and with any physical disabilities) in the whole of Uganda. Sign Health works in conjuction with all deaf schools in Uganda such as St. Mark Bwanda School for the Deaf, Good Samaritan school for the deaf- Kitengeesa, Ntinda School for the Deaf- Kampala and many others.
The students that I taught sign language received Certificates from Sign Health Uganda and Uganda National Association for the Deaf (UNAD) after a three months period of learning.
COMPETENCE
I am a disciplined and very hardworking person who can work in all conditions with or without supervision. I love working with people and most especially extending my services and all that I can offer to those who need them and with excellent customer care.
I endow reliable knowledge on most computer usage and Microsoft Office packages i.eMs Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint and Access for the six years I have been using and classes I had for computer.
I also possess experience and skills in research projects. This I exercised in research with a University of British Columbia (UBC), a Doctorate student and also in the UWEZO annual reading assessment. Not only that but have also helped many international service learning (ISL) students from UBC in their different research projects while volunteering in the Kitengesa community.
I also possess experience in photocopying, scanning, speedy typing, and printing and filing. Furthermore I endow exceptional skills and knowledge in preparation/ organization of meetings, writing agendas, and taking minutes in meetings.
I have effective communication skills both to the public as well as to individuals. I have expressed this in different places of work I have been to as mentioned above and also when I presented a Colloquium about Working with Rural Community in the 8th Pan African Conference (12th-16th Aug 2013) at the University of Nairobi, Kenya Science Campus under the theme: Literacy for all; Leading a way to literacy excellency.
I have great experience in exercising activities like cooking, washing utensils, mopping, dusting, and sweeping. I have been doing this in most of the places I have worked for mostly at home.
I am transparent, independent, neutral; respectful and disciplined. I am a very trustworthy person who is capable of keeping and securing privacy of the company/ organization as well as customers.
LANGUAGES
I can fluently speak/ communicate in the following languages;
English, Luganda and Ugandan Sign Language
But I can also listen and understand Lunyankole, Lusoga and a little Lunyarwanda and Lusoga.
HOBBIES
Reading: Novels, Career related books, the Bible, Inspirational quotes and articles; newspapers among others.
Writing: I write short stories and simple poems.
Travelling and tour: I like going on mini adventures around the world.
Listening to music and watching movies.
