Bio
Educator, Composer/Theoretical Language Designer, Pianist, and Vocalist
Recently a guest lecturer at McMaster University (January 30, 2013), Ryan presented and discussed the application of his Transformation Music Theory Model to a senior year composition class.
Ryan has worked at Frederick Harris Music Co., Limited (the publisher of The Royal Conservatory) and is currently working for The Royal Conservatory.
A McMaster University alumnus, Ryan graduated with Distinction (B.Mus (Honours), Summa Cum Laude, 2011), multiple Dean’s List acknowledgements, recipient of two scholarships, and Golden Key International Honour Society Member. He is also a Mohawk College Applied Music program graduate (DIPL.A.A., 2007).
In his teen years, Ryan was a dedicated member, section leader, and saxophone quartet leader/arranger of Burlington’s historical, Canada’s musical ambassador, The Burlington Teen Tour Band. During his seven–year career with the Teen Tour Band, Ryan became a semi–finalist in YTV’s 1998 Youth Achievement Awards, a Canadian nation–wide youth talent search. He has also released two independent CD’s of original piano compositions under the stage name Orpheus; now sold out. Since becoming more passionate about teaching, Ryan has not only helped people realize and develop their gift of music, but has created and produced an ear-training program called EAR-SAMURAI. He has also worked with and provided original musical scores for freelance filmmakers and 3D animators.
Furthermore, the world premier of his compositions "Revelations" (twentieth century orchestral/choral piece; featuring members of the Oakville Symphony Orchestra and Mohawk College students), "Eophona Migratoria" (duet for solo flute and piano; featuring Doda Song and Cecile Desrosiers), "Horse Tranquilizer" (solo piano; featuring Colin Eccles), and "Pictures Suite: 5 pieces inspired by impressionists paintings for solo piano", were well received.
Ryan is currently studying piano with Pamela Van Weelden, an Examiner for The Royal Conservatory. In addition to piano instruction, he is also studying contemporary vocal technique with Brandon Brophy at 3rd Voice (http://www.3rdvoice.com) and classical singing technique with Dr. Robert Loewen (https://examinations.rcmusic.ca/robert-loewen) at The Royal Conservatory School.
His busy music studio encompasses Hamilton, Burlington, and Oakville, Ontario. He is also an Associate VIP Instructor and is excited to be part of the world-class VIP network.
