Bio
I am a marine ecologist interested in larval biology, connectivity, quantitative analysis, and fisheries. Currently, I am a PhD Candidate at Memorial University of Newfoundland working with the Canadian Healthy Oceans Network (CHONe).
My research focuses on the evaluation of spatial-temporal patterns in the near-shore environment. Specifically I utilize laboratory approaches to calibrate the design and guide the interpretation of both otolith fingerprinting and biophysical models. By improving aspects of design or challenging assumptions, my research intends to provide a template for future use of otolith chemistry and biophysical modelling, punctuating the need for calibration and understanding the assumptions of each strategy when applying them to dynamic field conditions. Better tools will enable more informed decisions by managers about how best to apply spatially explicit management and design protected areas, in addition to optimizing use of source-sink dynamics for other management decisions.
