Bio
I'm an author of eight books, both fiction and nonfiction. My first novel, Hallie's Heart (Kregel Publications), won a 2008 Christy Award.
My caregiving books flow from the eight years my husband Dan and I spent caring for our parents in our home. Precious Lord, Take My Hand: Meditations for Caregivers (Discovery House Publishers 2007) now has more than 100,000 copies in print. My second caregiving book, Ambushed by Grace: Help, Hope, and Heart Transformation on the Caregiving Journey, released in November of 2008. It Is Well with My Soul: Meditations for Those Living with Illness, Pain, and the Challenges of Aging released in 2012.
I am also the author of The Silent Seduction of Self-Talk, a book that challenges readers to engage in the pursuit of redemptive self-talk. I present seminars on this book in prisons across the nation with Daughters of Destiny women's prison ministry.
I have also contributed to several Bible projects, including the NIV Stewardship Study Bible (Zondervan) and served as managing editor for the Hope in the Mourning Bible (Zondervan 2013).
I am a graduate of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, and Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, also in Michigan. As part of my passion for instilling a love for writing in others, I became a co-founder of the Cedar Falls Christian Writers' Workshop in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and the Breathe Christian Writers' Workshop in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
I am also co-founder of PTSDPerspectives and consult in prisons, hospitals, mental health clinics, schools, and to child advocates. I also speak at caregiving conferences, writers' conferences, seminars, schools, retreats, and educational events across the country. I am a member of the Christian Authors' Network, the Advanced Writers and Speakers Association, and the American Christian Fiction Writers.
A twenty-five year veteran in education, I also serve as an adjunct professor at Cornerstone University.
My husband Dan and I live near Grand Rapids, Michigan, and enjoy riding our Harley Davidson at every available opportunity.
