Bio
Constance Y. White is a creative professional who engages communities through developing and overseeing collaborative and integrated public art projects and activating public spaces with authentic multidisciplinary visual and performing art programs. Constance worked with the Arts & Science Council of Charlotte/Mecklenburg NC for 2014 - 2015 to improve program efficiencies as well as to introduce contemporary best practices for administering their public art program. This effort included advising the Charlotte Douglass International Airport on establishing a site-specific artistic and aesthetic direction for implementing an airport art program for CLT.
In her previous role as the Art Program Manager for San Diego International Airport (SAN), White developed and implemented SAN’s first Airport Art Master Plan – successfully managing a capital budget of approximately $10 million while working alongside the design team to facilitate the integration of 20 permanent art installations and cultivating numerous temporary exhibitions and performances. She began her career with the City of Dallas, serving for nine years as the public art coordinator for the Office of Cultural Affair’s Percent for Art Public Art Program.
Recently, White completed an Airport Art Master Plan for Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport and was commissioned by the Airport Authority to design a memorial project slated for completion in early 2016. In 2015, she authored an essay on Art and Transportation published by Americans for the Arts and since 2006, she has been invited to speak about the impact of art in airports, has lead and participated on juries, panels and workshops throughout the United States. Constance is a past Council member of the Public Art Network for Americans for the Arts and still serves on the advisory group which develops the annual American Association of Airport Executives Art in Airports Workshop.
White is a classically trained studio artist with a BFA in Art History from the Meadows School of Art at Southern Methodist University.
