Bio
I am currently a student at Middlesex Community College, Lowell, Massachusetts. I am majoring in Graphic Design. I will be continuing my education after graduation at The University of Massachusetts and will be studying Fine Arts. My future goal is to be a teacher of Art History and Graphic Arts.
Every year Middlesex Community College offers a fellowship program which allows students to travel to a different country and participate in service learning studies. On of the trips for 2015 was to Cambodia. I applied, interviewed and was accepted to participate. This will be my first time traveling out of the United States and I am very excited about this trip. Throughout my studies in art one of my focuses is in the field of Ceramics. Here at Middlesex we have a ceramics professor that is originally from Cambodia and is an accomplished ceramist. I took his class in 2013 and realized that this is what I want to do for my own art. Through his classes we have learned the ancient art of Cambodian wood firing and from that I want to continue my studies to include more of the art history of Cambodia.
One of our destinations on our trip is a visit to Kampong Chhang. We will be visiting local potters and learning about the collaboration between The Royal University of Fine Arts (RUFA) and local potters.
We will be in Cambodia for eighteen days and this opportunity that I have been afforded is something that I will take with me throughout my educational pursuits and my life goals.
