Use AI tools on WordPress.com

Last reviewed on April 23, 2026

WordPress.com offers several AI-powered features to help you create and manage your site. This guide introduces the available AI tools and links to detailed instructions for each.

Access AI settings

AI features on WordPress.com help you edit your site more efficiently using artificial intelligence. Use them to create content, design pages, generate images, and manage your sites with less manual effort.

To access AI tools on WordPress.com:

  1. Visit your hosting dashboard.
  2. Click the three dots () in the action menu next to a site and select Settings:
The ellipsis menu below actions expanded and an arrow pointing to the "Settings" option.
  1. Click the “AI tools” section.
  2. From here, you can toggle individual AI features on or off.

AI tools are entirely opt-in. If you find these workflows helpful, you can choose which tools to use with your website and when to use them. Visit our AI guidelines to learn more about using AI-generated content.

Build a new site with AI

You can use AI to generate a new WordPress.com site, including its layout, pages, text, and images. This option appears during the site creation flow. See Build a website with AI for details.

With your site created, you can continue to update it using AI:

Use the AI assistant in the editor

With an eligible theme and plan, you can use the AI assistant to edit existing sites — the same tool that builds new sites from scratch. When you enable the AI assistant in the editor, it can help you write content, generate images, redesign pages, and collaborate with teammates using block notes. See Enable the AI assistant to turn it on.

Connect external AI agents with MCP

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) lets you connect external AI agents — such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or Gemini — to your WordPress.com account. A connected agent can read from and write to your sites using natural language prompts. MCP access stays off until you enable it. See Enable MCP tool access for AI agents for setup steps.
