After you create a page or post, you can edit the settings to control how your content is shown to the world. In this guide, you will learn how to edit a page or post’s settings.
After creating a page or post, you can return to edit the settings like featured images, status, link, and more. Follow these steps to edit a page or post’s settings:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Click either Pages or Posts in the menu on the side.

- Choose from one of the following links at the top of the dashboard:
- Published: Pages you have published to your site.
- Drafts: Pages you have started but have not yet published.
- Scheduled: Pages you have set to be published at a future date.
- Trashed: Pages that will be deleted after 30 days.

- Locate your page or post in the list and click the title of it to open the editor.
- In the editor, you will see the page/post settings in the sidebar on the right side of your screen.
- If the settings sidebar is already open, make sure to click the Page or Post tab, to view the page/post settings.
If you do not have the sidebar on the right, click the Settings icon in the top-right corner to bring up the settings. This icon looks like a square with two uneven columns:

In the top section of the Page/Post Settings, you can modify the following settings:
- Under the Actions icon (the three dots (⋮) to the right of the page/post name):
- View: See the page or post.
- Duplicate: Make a copy of the current page or post.
- Rename: Change the title of the page or post.
- Order: Assign an order number for the page (pages only).
- Set as home page: Set the current page as your site’s homepage (pages only).
- Set as posts page: Set the current page as your site’s posts page (pages only).
- Move to trash: Delete the page.
- Set featured image: Select a single image to represent the page in social shares, and elsewhere on your site. Learn more about featured images.
- Status: Set your page to draft, pending, private, scheduled, published, or password-protected. Learn more about the different page statuses.
- Publish: Set the page or post to go live immediately, or choose a date and time in the past or future. Learn more about scheduling pages or posts.
- Slug: See and change the URL of the page. Learn more about page links.
- Author: Change the author of the page to another user on your site.
- Template: Choose from the following template options:
- Edit template: Modify the template that controls how the content of your page is presented.
- Swap template: Change the template used for that page. The Page template is the default template for pages.
- Create new template: Design a new template to use for the page.
- Show template: Preview how your content will be displayed with headers, footers, and other template parts applied.
- Discussion: Allow people to leave public comments on the page. Learn more about comments.
- Revisions: Restore previously saved versions of the page. This option will appear only after you have saved some changes to the page. Learn more about revisions.
- Parent: Choose a parent page for the page (pages only).

To make a quick edit, take the following steps:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Click either Pages or Posts in the menu on the side.

- Hover your mouse over the title of any page and select the “Quick Edit” link.

- When you use the quick edit option on a page, you’ll see options for updating title, slug, date, password, parent, order, and status.

- When you use the quick edit option on a post, you’ll see additional options for updating categories, tags, and other post-specific options.

- Once you’ve completed the changes you want to make, click the “Update” button to save your changes.
- Or, click “Cancel” to exit without saving your changes.
You can modify the following details about a single page or post without opening the page/post editor screen:
- Status (published, pending review, or draft)
- Page attributes (pages only)
- Categories (posts only)
- Tags (posts only)
- Pings (posts only)
- Sticky (posts only)
