Import your subscribers from Substack

You can import your subscribers and content from Substack. This guide will show you how to import free and paid subscribers from Substack to WordPress.com.

Export your Substack subscribers

You can download your subscriber list from Substack by following these steps:

  1. Log into Substack.
  2. Select “Subscribers” in the Publisher Dashboard menu.
  3. Scroll down to the “All subscribers” section and click the “Export” button.
  4. In the pop-over, leave the default settings of “My entire email list” and “All columns“.

  1. Click the “Export” button.
  2. When your export has completed, click the “Download last export” button.

Import Substack subscribers to WordPress.com

Now that you have exported your email list from Substack, follow the steps below to import it into your WordPress.com website:

  1. Visit your WordPress.com dashboard.
  2. On the left side, navigate to Jetpack → Subscribers.
  3. Click the “Add subscribers” button in the upper right-hand corner.
  4. Click the “Import from Substack” option.

  1. Add your Substack Newsletter URL in the box provided to import your comments and author information.
  2. If you are not importing content, skip the import content step using the “Skip for now” button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Upload the CSV export of Substack subscribers and click the “Continue” button.
    • If you are only importing free subscribers, click the “I have only free subscribers” or “Import only free subscribers” button to start the import. If you are also importing paid subscribers, follow the instructions in the next section of this guide.

  1. Once the import is complete, you’ll see a summary of the Subscribers import. If there were any duplicate subscribers in the import, they will be skipped.

Import your Substack paid subscribers

When you start the subscriber import from Substack to WordPress.com you will be prompted to set up a Stripe account to migrate any paid subscribers.

  1. Click the “Connect Stripe” button and connect the same Stripe account that you use to manage your Substack subscriptions.

If you have an existing Stripe account connected to your WordPress.com account, you can click the “Try a different Stripe account” button to disconnect your existing Stripe account and connect to the Stripe account associated with your Substack subscriptions.

  1. After you have connected your Stripe account you will map your Substack subscriptions to your WordPress.com Newsletter subscriptions. Click the down arrow next to the “Select a newsletter tier” option to choose an existing tier or click “Add newsletter tier” to create a new newsletter tier.

  1. After you map all of your Substack paid subscriptions to your Newsletter paid subscriptions, click the “Import subscribers” button to import your paid subscribers.
  2. Once the import is complete, you’ll see a summary of the Subscribers import. If there were any duplicate subscribers in the import, they will be skipped.
