Your site’s newsletter settings control how readers subscribe and what they receive in their inbox. This guide explains each setting.
To open the Newsletter settings:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Jetpack → Newsletter.
The Email new posts to subscribers by default toggle controls whether new posts automatically send email notifications to your subscribers when published.
- When this toggle is ON, every new post sends an email notification by default. You can still disable the email for individual posts before publishing.
- When this toggle is OFF, new posts do not send email notifications unless you manually enable the email for a specific post.

The subscription options control where visitors can find a way to subscribe to your site. You can add subscription signup forms to your homepage, posts, navigation menu, and comment section.
When you use a block theme for your site, you will also find links labeled “Preview and edit” to customize respective subscription options in the Site Editor.
Homepage and posts
Under the “Homepage and posts” section, you can add a subscription box, pop-up, overlay, or a floating button. To enable any of these subscription features:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Jetpack → Newsletter.
- Under the “Homepage and posts” section, toggle ON the subscription features you want to add:
- Add the Subscribe block at the end of each post.
- Show subscription pop-up when scrolling a post.
- Subscription overlay on the homepage.
- Floating subscribe button on the site’s bottom corner.
- Click the “Save” button.
The subscription pop-up appears on blog posts only. It does not appear on pages or custom post types (like portfolios or product pages), and it does not appear if any of the following conditions are true:
- The visitor has already dismissed the pop-up once in the last 24 hours.
- The visitor is already subscribed to the site.
- The post is for subscribers only, or it is a paid newsletter.

Navigation
In the Navigation section, you can add a Subscribe block or Subscriber Login block to your site’s menu.
To add a subscription option to your site’s menu:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Jetpack → Newsletter.
- Under the Navigation section, toggle ON the subscription features you want to add to your site’s navigation menu:
- Add the Subscribe Block to the navigation.
- Add the Subscriber Login Block to the navigation.
- Click the “Save” button.

This setting is available for sites using a block theme. If you would like to be able to add these options to your navigation, you can browse and choose one of our block themes.
Comments
When a visitor leaves a comment on your site, you can offer them a way to subscribe. The Comments section provides two toggles:
- Enable subscription pop-up for commenters — displays a pop-up after a visitor submits a comment, suggesting they subscribe to your site. The pop-up stops appearing if the commenter subscribes or sees it more than 5 times without subscribing.
- Enable comment subscription options — adds checkboxes below the comment form that let commenters subscribe to follow-up comments on that post or to all new posts on your site.
To enable either option:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Jetpack → Newsletter.
- Under the Comments section, toggle ON the options you want to enable.
- Click the “Save” button.

The Paid newsletter section displays your current payment plans. You can create plans that let subscribers pay for access to exclusive content. To set up a paid newsletter, see Create a paid newsletter.
Newsletter categories allow visitors to subscribe to specific topics you write about on your blog. With newsletter categories enabled, only posts published under selected categories are emailed to your subscribers.
This setting is disabled by default. Learn how to enable newsletter categories.
Use Newsletter settings to control what your subscribers see in each post notification email. You can choose which content to include, customize the byline, set the sender name, and configure how subscribers can reply. To preview how your emails will look, see Preview an email.
Email content
The email content options control the main body of your post notification emails. To configure them:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Jetpack → Newsletter.
- Under the Email content section:
- Toggle “Include the post’s featured image in the new post emails” to include your post’s featured image at the top of the email.
- Choose between Full text (all content from the post) or an Excerpt in the email. If you select an excerpt and your post does not include a specific excerpt, the first 55 words of the post are used.

Email byline
The byline settings control which author details appear in your post notification emails. To customize the byline:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Jetpack → Newsletter.
- Under the Email byline section, configure the following options:
- “Show author avatar on your emails” — displays your profile photo in the email.
- “Show author display name” — displays your name in the email.
- “Add the post date” — displays the date the post was published.

Sender name
The sender name appears in the “From” field of the email your subscribers receive. By default, your site title is used as the sender name.
To change the sender name:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Jetpack → Newsletter.
- Under the Sender settings section, edit the text in the “Sender name” field.
- Click the “Save” button.
Reply-to
The reply-to setting controls what happens when a subscriber replies to a post notification email. By default, replies are not allowed.
To change the reply-to behavior:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Jetpack → Newsletter.
- Under the Reply-to section, select one of the “Reply-to settings” options:
- Replies not allowed: Subscribers cannot reply to the email.
- …will be a public comment on the post: Replies are posted as comments on the blog post.
- …will be sent to the post author’s email: Replies go directly to the author’s email address.
When someone subscribes to your blog or newsletter and has a confirmed email address, they receive a welcome email. You can customize the message in this email.
To change the welcome email message:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Jetpack → Newsletter.
- Under the Welcome email message section, add your text to the “Welcome message” field.
- Click the “Save” button.

Subscribers who do not have a WordPress.com account receive a confirmation email before the welcome email. The confirmation email asks them to verify their email address and cannot be customized. Subscribers who already have a WordPress.com account skip the confirmation step and receive the welcome email immediately.
